Week 1 front page/Bench Blunders

The league benched 759.82 points in Week 1

Twelve teams, 242.92 points of fixable mistakes, four wrong quarterbacks, and the three worst offenders all won.

By the SmackWire Editorial Board · 300 BPS · Week 1

Across twelve rosters, 759.82 points sat on benches in Week 1. Not all of that was avoidable; some belongs to backups who could never have started. But 242.92 of those points could have been put in a lineup with ordinary, legal decisions, and weren't.

Four teams started the wrong quarterback. Mac Attack played Drake Maye (9.82) over Brock Purdy (21.1). Primandproper played Matthew Stafford (4.10) over Aaron Rodgers (12.54). JF's Team played Daniel Jones (9.04) over Jordan Love (19.48). Drivers Ed with Rashee Rice played Baker Mayfield (11.64) over Trevor Lawrence (26.1). Together, 44.62 points, decided at the position with exactly one spot and all week to think about it.

The single most expensive benching: David's Daring Team started George Pickens (5.8) while Jalen Coker scored 33.8 on the bench. A 28.0-point decision in a game won by 20.22.

Most points left on the table by one team: Mac Attack, 37.18. Second: Kendall’s Tears, Jesse’s Fears, 35.2. Third: David's Daring Team, 33.4. All three won. SmackWire does not endorse this. The scoreboard, unfortunately, does.

Exactly one team set a perfect lineup: Jules Touchdown Service. It lost.
